Personal Media Shredding
Second-hand hard drives still remain a good source for identity thieves and industrial spies.
Research suggests that more than a half of all second-hand hard drives are not properly wiped before being resold.
This applies to drives previously owned by companies, as well as individuals. Information retrieved from the drives in the research included bank and credit-card information, salary details, medical records, purchase histories, and, in the case of former company drives, corporate financial data.
Studies also show that government campaigns aimed at encouraging people to properly wipe old hard drives are having little effect – the percentage of drives found still containing sensitive data has gone up year on year.
Many people don’t realise that merely “formatting” a disk, or deleting all the files stored on it, does not mean data cannot be recovered.
Formatting a disk or deleting files only changes data that identify the location of the files held on the disk, making them ready for overwriting. However, until that data is actually overwritten, these files can be recovered using freely available software.
ITADwise can take your old personal media and shred it down to 11mm, ensuring your data can't be recovered and misused.
This service is made easy! All you need to do is drop off your unwanted media at any one of the ITADwise secure media shredding bins.
We will provide you with a reference number so you can always track the progress of your media. Once shredded, ITADwise will email you a certificate confirming the media has been shredded and your data is no longer recoverable.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
All we ask is that if you want a hard drive shredded then please can you remove it from the PC and not bring the PC to the shredding bin. We do not have hardware trained staff at the sites so we will not be able to help. You can watch many videos online if you're unsure on how to remove the hard drive.
WHO CAN USE THIS SERVICE?
This service was first designed for public users but has grown into a service now designed for both public and small businesses. The secure shredding bins can hold a maximum of 50 hard drives at a time.
